1920 Cpl Noel Batty (Known as Yorky) C Company No 1 Training Unit/1 R.L.I. left the Rhodesian Army at
the breakup of the Federation. His great friend at the time was Derek Hughes who later became a Caterer.
He died peacefully at his home in Ilkley West Yorkshire in January 2006. I knew him personally, although
slight of build he had a tremendous personality and was respected and well liked by all who knew him.
He thought the time he had spent with the Battalion was the best of his Army career. Prior to this he
had served with both the British and Australian Armies from the end of WW2.
