Major N.A. ‘Spike’ Powell MBE WB WKhm(G) was 3 Commando’s 2 IC during
Operation Cauldron in 1968. Major Powell’s last appointment was Officer
Commanding RLI Base Group. Major Powell was tragically killed 12
February 1979 as a passenger on the second Viscount civilian airliner
shot down by ZIPRA terrorists using a SAM 7.
