729777 Lance Corporal David Jefferies – Support Commando,
1st Battalion the Rhodesian Light Infantry.
DOB - 31.03.1961
Started my basic training in mid 1978 as a regular recruit - National Service intake NS 162.
The first 6 weeks of training was undertaken at Llewellyn Barracks and then NS 162 was transferred en masse to Training Troop 1 RLI.
Joined Support Commando in the latter part of 1978 and was allocated to Assault Pioneer Troop, where I was taught the basics in assaulting gooks, caves and schoolgirls – not necessarily in that order.
Completed the basic static line parachute course in January 1979 and as a trooper then stick leader, spent the majority of bush trips on Para Fireforce duties. My personal involvement in external operations was limited to external Fireforce, predominantly in Mozambique.
Completed the advanced course in assaulting gooks, caves and schoolgirls.
Left Support Commando in June 1980 with the dizzy rank of Lance Corporal General Service Medal.
In Civvy Street I completed a printing apprenticeship and then entered the world of production management.
Left my birthplace in 1990 to Join Tetra Pak South Africa, a packaging company. Served in various management positions.
I am currently the National Flexo Specialist with Antalis Graphics based in Durban.
Married to Carol an ex Sinoia crow and have twin daughters - Tammy and Diane.
I am actively involved with the MOTHs as a member of Mills Bomb Shellhole, Warner Beach, Amanzimtoti.
